These first GEOGRAPHICS, though unrelentingly learned and sparsely illustrated, nonetheless have great historical interest. The new index, for instance, contains an entry under “Meteorology”: “The Great Storm of March 11-14, 1888”—or, as it is now remembered, the Blizzard of ’88. It refers the reader to two articles in the very first issue, October, 1888, which offer a day-by-day account of the famous storm, including barometric pressures, wind velocities, and temperatures.
